Plumber in Dundas & Dundas Valley NSW 2117

Plumber Dundas NSW 2117
Reactive Clay, Fill & 24/7 Emergencies

Dundas is a low-density suburb on complicated ground. Around 72% of it is zoned R2 Low Density Residential and just over half the dwellings are separate houses, so the private drain usually runs a long way under garden before it reaches the street. Underneath, three different problems sit side by side: reactive shale clay across about half the suburb, filled ground over roughly a tenth of it, and alluvial flats along The Ponds and Vineyard Creeks.

We handle blocked drains, hot water, gas fitting, pipe relining and 24/7 emergencies across Dundas and Dundas Valley, with a fixed price agreed before we start and no call-out fee.

Dundas Plumbing Problems

Common Plumbing Problems We Fix in Dundas

These are the issues we are called to most often around Dundas and Dundas Valley. Because three different ground types run through this one suburb, the same symptom can have very different causes, so each one needs a proper diagnosis before anyone quotes a repair.

Tree Roots in Long Private Drain Runs

Just over half of Dundas is separate houses on blocks laid out when orchard land was subdivided in 1902 and 1905, so the private drain often runs a long way under established garden before it reaches the street. The NSW soil report for this area notes that tall trees are common on this landscape, and fine roots find the smallest crack in an old clay or earthenware joint.

How we fix it

We run a CCTV camera the full length of the run to find every entry point rather than guessing, clear the line with high-pressure jetting, then reline the cracked section so roots cannot return through the same joint.

Drainage Cracked by Reactive Shale Clay

About half the suburb sits on Blacktown and Glenorie soils, described in the NSW soil survey as moderately reactive with highly plastic subsoil and poor soil drainage. Reactive clay swells when wet and shrinks when dry, season after season, and rigid buried drainage moves with it until joints offset or crack.

How we fix it

We camera the line to find the offset joints, then repair or reline the damaged sections. On reactive ground a jointless liner is the durable answer, because it removes the joints that the movement keeps pulling apart.

Trenching Through Filled Ground

Around a tenth of Dundas is mapped as Disturbed Terrain, which is ground made up of fill rather than natural soil. The NSW report describes its surface movement as highly variable depending on materials and degree of compaction, with unconsolidated low wet strength materials and poor drainage.

How we fix it

We check the ground before quoting excavation on these pockets rather than pricing a standard trench. Where the fill is unpredictable we favour no-dig relining, and where we do excavate we plan the shoring and the backfill for the material actually in the trench.

Waterlogged Yards on the Creek Flats

The Ponds Creek runs about 1.3 km through Dundas and Vineyard Creek about 900 metres, and the suburb falls to roughly 8 metres at its lowest. The alluvial Birrong soils along those flats carry limitations of localised flooding, seasonal waterlogging and saline subsoil.

How we fix it

We assess where the water is actually sitting and where it can go, then design subsoil drainage and re-grade surface falls. Near the creek flats we also check buried metal and concrete for salt attack, because saline subsoil shortens the life of both.

Sydney Water Is Relining Sewers in Dundas Right Now

Dundas appears on both delivery-team lists in Sydney Water's current sewer and stormwater rehabilitation program. Their own guidance notes that to reline a main they need access to the maintenance holes at either end, and that these are often located in backyards. A great many Dundas homeowners are about to see their drainage up close.

How we fix it

The main in the street is Sydney Water's. The line from your house to the boundary is yours. If crews are working nearby, it is the right moment to camera your own lateral, because a failing private line next to a freshly relined main will keep causing problems the new main cannot fix.

Blocked Kitchen, Bathroom and Laundry Drains

Indoors, grease, soap, hair and food scraps gradually narrow the pipe until a sink, basin or shower drains at a crawl. A plunger or a supermarket drain cleaner clears the surface but leaves the cause sitting in the line, so the blockage returns within weeks.

How we fix it

We clear the line properly with jetting rather than chemicals, then camera it to confirm the pipe is sound behind the blockage. If the pipe has failed, we tell you, and if it has not, we tell you that too.

Symptom, Cause and Fix at a Glance

The same symptom has different causes on different ground. Dundas carries reactive shale clay, filled ground and alluvial creek flats in one suburb, so a diagnosis matters more here than a price list does.

What you noticeWhat is usually causing it hereWhat we do about it
A gurgling toilet after heavy rainRoots or an offset joint in the clay lateral, worst on the reactive shale that covers about half the suburb.CCTV the run, jet it clear, reline the cracked section.
Slow sink, one fixture onlyGrease and soap narrowing the branch line, not a main-line failure.Jet the branch, camera to confirm the pipe behind it is sound.
Slow drains across the whole houseA blockage in the main private lateral between the house and the boundary.Camera from the overflow relief gully, clear it, then check the grade.
Damp or boggy yard that never driesLow-permeability clay, or alluvial ground near The Ponds or Vineyard Creek where water does not soak away.Assess the fall, install subsoil drainage, re-grade the surface.
Cracked paving or a settling path over the drain lineGround movement, often over filled ground or reactive clay subsoil.Camera the line under it before any paving is relaid.
Discoloured water or dropping pressureCorroding galvanised supply pipe in stock from the pre-war and post-war subdivisions.Pressure test, locate the failing section, replace in copper or PEX.
Sewer smell in the yard after Sydney Water works nearbyA cracked private lateral venting, separate from the main being relined.Camera the private line and seal or reline the break.
Local Dundas Plumbing Knowledge

A Plumber Who Knows the Clay, the Fill and the Creek Flats

Dundas sits entirely within the City of Parramatta, about 3 km south west of Carlingford. The suburb grew quickly after orchard land was subdivided in 1902 and 1905, following the extension of the railway, and the drainage under the older streets is the age of that stock.

The ground is the thing that decides most plumbing outcomes here. Blacktown and Glenorie shale soils cover about half the suburb and are rated moderately reactive with highly plastic subsoil. Roughly a tenth is Disturbed Terrain, which is fill, and about 6% is alluvial Birrong soil along the creek flats where the suburb drops to around 8 metres.

Plumbing Services in Dundas

Plumbing Services in Dundas, NSW 2117

From the streets subdivided off orchard land around Kissing Point Road to the townhouses and the low ground near the creeks, we cover every kind of plumbing for houses, townhouses and small commercial sites. Every job starts with a proper inspection, a clear explanation and an upfront quote.

Slow sinks, gurgling toilets and drains backing up are the most common calls in Dundas. On long private runs under established garden, roots and offset joints are usually the cause rather than anything you put down the sink. We use a CCTV camera to find the joint that failed rather than just cutting the roots out.

On reactive clay a jointless liner is the durable answer, because relining removes the joints that ground movement keeps pulling apart. It also rebuilds the pipe from the inside with no digging, which matters on the filled pockets in this suburb where excavation is unpredictable.

No hot water, rusty water, a leaking tank or a unit that keeps cutting out? We repair and replace gas, electric, solar and heat-pump systems. With just over half of Dundas being separate houses, most jobs here are whole-of-house family systems rather than single-bathroom units.

Our licensed gas fitters install and service cooktops, ovens, heaters, gas hot water and gas lines across Dundas and Dundas Valley, and issue compliance certificates. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, call us immediately. We test the line, isolate the fault and make the area safe first.

Leaking taps, running toilets, burst pipes, worn mixers and faulty valves. In stock this age, we also see corroding galvanised supply pipe behind the wall showing up as discoloured water or dropping pressure, which is a replacement job rather than a repair.

how to prevent clogged drains

Burst pipe, sewer overflow, major leak or no hot water after hours? Our 24/7 emergency plumbers cover Dundas and Dundas Valley every day of the year, with no call-out fee and a clear price agreed before we start.

SYDNEY WATER IS RELINING SEWERS HERE

Sydney Water Is Relining Sewers in Dundas Right Now

Dundas and Dundas Valley appear on both delivery-team lists in Sydney Water's current sewer and stormwater rehabilitation program. If crews are working in your street, it is worth understanding which pipe is theirs and which one is yours, because relining the main does nothing for a failing private line.

The main in the street is theirs

Sydney Water owns and maintains the sewer main. Relining rebuilds it from the inside by inserting a liner, with no digging.

1

The line to your boundary is yours

Everything between your house and the property boundary is the owner's responsibility, and that is where most blockages actually happen.

2

They may need your backyard

Sydney Water notes that the maintenance holes they need access to are often located in backyards. Expect contact if yours is one of them.

Excellent service from R&G Plumbing at my unit. Jeremy was very quick to contact me and arrange an inspection. Once here, Adam was professional, punctual, and quickly identified the issue with my kitchen taps. He clearly explained the problem, completed the repair efficiently, and provided all the documentation I needed afterwards.

I really appreciated the honest advice, attention to detail, and fair pricing. I highly recommend R&G Plumbing to anyone looking for reliable, fairly priced, and professional plumbing services.

Thank you again to the entire R&G Plumbing team!

Jack from R&G Plumbing Gas & Drainage Pty Ltd was outstanding from start to finish. His workmanship was excellent, and he was professional, friendly, and incredibly patient throughout the entire job. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was done properly and took the time to explain things clearly, which I really appreciated. The quality of his work speaks for itself, and the pricing was very fair — great value for money. I couldn’t be happier with the result and would highly recommend Jack to anyone needing a reliable and skilled plumber. Thank you Jack

We had a blocked drain in our backyard and R&G Plumbing reached out very quickly. Jeremy gave us a fair quote for jet blasting, so we went ahead. Zac came out and was fantastic. When the jet blasting didn’t work, he found the pipe was completely blocked by long roots and a hole in the pipe

Initially, it looked like the floor would need to be dug up for a 1.5 day job$$, which we couldn’t afford. Instead, Jack kept investigating and found another access point through our neighbour’s carpark ceiling. He organised access to neighbours garage, removed the roots, and repaired the pipe at a much more affordable price. The roots were way worse than we expected.

As a young couple and first home buyers, this was our first time dealing with a plumber and we were pretty stressed since we thought it was a simple blockage but it turned out to be a complex issue. I gotta check the drainage when im purchase property in the future. Learnt my lesson!

Jeremy and Zac explained everything clearly and provided a detailed report and invoice so we can raise it with strata, as the drainage is linked to other units and may have further issues.

Really grateful for the honesty and effort. We’ve definitely found a plumber we trust and would happily connect with Jeremy’s team again.

Very happy with the work and the service. Jack came to give me a quote on replacing 4 taps in the laundry and the Abs came to do the work 2 hours later. Everything fixed quickly on the same day. Both young men were very professional and pleasant. I would recommend them.

My sewer was blocked, and as my normal plumber was unavailable for a week I contacted R&G Plumbing. They promptly attended after my call, and temporarily fixed the problem, but indicated the pipe had to be replaced. After being a bit taken aback by the quote, I accepted due to the urgency of the matter. Abs and his apprentice River (2 days on the job) attended on time a couple of days later to complete the job. Both very pleasant to speak to. It was an all day job to dig the hole through heavy clay, replace the pipe, back fill, and replace a row of pavers. I think they did a pretty good job with the clean up as well. Overall, happy with the reliability and outcome, though I thought a tad expensive. I did ask a general question of replacing 2 washers, and was quoted 3 times more than I actually paid my normal plumber the previous week. Anyway, the job was done to a satisfactory standard, and no complaints. Toss of the coin for 4 or 5 stars, but it came out 4 just for the cost - maybe I live in the past.....?

We had Zac@R&G Plumbing attend a consistently blocking toilet in our apartment. He demonstrated strong knowledge, explaining where he believed the issue lay & what he needed to do to diagnose. On confirming his diagnosis he provided a detailed report so we could provide to our strata manager as issue would require strata approval to fix. Zac was professional, honest & worked efficiently, cleaning up as if he had never been. We would have no hesitation recommending Zac for any plumbing requirement & will definitely use his services again in future. Cheers, Paula

Plumber Dundas FAQs

Do you cover Dundas Valley as well as Dundas?

Yes. We cover the whole of the 2117 postcode, which takes in Dundas and Dundas Valley, along with Telopea next door. The two suburbs sit on different ground, so we treat them differently: Dundas Valley carries more of the post-war Housing Commission stock, while Dundas proper was subdivided from orchard land in 1902 and 1905.

There is no call-out fee. Coming out to assess the job costs nothing. We look at the work, quote a fixed price before we start, and you decide. The price does not change once we are on site unless the job itself changes and you agree to it first.

The split runs at your property boundary. Sydney Water owns and maintains the main in the street. Everything from your house to the boundary is the property owner's, and that private line is where the great majority of blockages actually occur. If we camera your line and the fault turns out to be on Sydney Water's side, we tell you, and you should not be paying us to fix it.

It fixes their pipe, not yours. Relining rebuilds the main from the inside without digging. It does nothing for a cracked or root-filled private lateral between your house and the boundary, and a failing private line next to a freshly relined main will keep backing up. While crews are in the area is a sensible time to camera your own line.

Yes, around the clock, every day of the year, including nights, weekends and public holidays, for burst pipes, sewer overflows, gas leaks and hot water failures across Dundas and Dundas Valley.

Ask for the licence number and check it yourself on the NSW Fair Trading licence register, which is free and public. A licensed plumber will give you the number without hesitating. Also insist on a written fixed price before work starts, and be wary of anyone who quotes an hourly rate with no cap, or who wants payment in full up front.

Yes. Stormwater drainage is licensed plumbing work in NSW, and it is not the same trade as guttering or landscaping. It matters here because Dundas sheds water rather than absorbing it on low-permeability clay, so stormwater that is not properly connected and graded ends up against the house.
