If it is doing damage, creating a health risk or shutting down something your household cannot run without, we treat it as an emergency. These are the call-outs we handle around the clock.
Water spreading across the floor, a hissing wall, or a water meter spinning with every tap off. We isolate the supply fast, find the split with leak-detection gear rather than guesswork, and repair the pipe properly, then help you document the damage for insurance.
Gurgling from every drain, water rising in the shower when the washing machine empties, or sewage coming up where it should not. We clear the line with jetting and machine equipment, camera it to find the cause, and test the flow before we leave.
A rotten-egg smell, hissing near an appliance, or a heater behaving strangely. Treat it as urgent every time. Our licensed gas fitters make the property safe, find the leak with electronic detection and repair it, certified. Full guidance in the gas section below.
A toilet that keeps rising after the flush is minutes from a very bad flood. We stop the overflow at the source, clear the blockage, check the line for the cause and leave the bathroom usable and sanitary.
A cold shower on a winter morning, or a tank quietly dumping water down the side of the house. We diagnose element, valve, thermostat and unit failures, repair what is worth repairing, and can replace and certify a failed system same-day on most jobs.
The braided hose under a vanity or sink is one of the most common causes of flooded homes in Australia, and it fails without warning. We replace burst flexi hoses, seized taps and leaking fixtures before they soak cabinetry, and we will check the rest of them while we are there.
A downpour outside, grates fountaining, water sheeting toward the garage. We clear blocked stormwater lines, pits and downpipes in the wet, then camera the line once it eases to fix the cause, not just this storm.
Drips through a light fitting, a sagging ceiling patch, damp spreading down a wall. We isolate the source fast, whether it is a pipe, a roof leak or an upstairs bathroom, make the area electrically safe to work near, and stop the damage from spreading while we price the proper fix.
The worst part of a plumbing emergency is not the water. It is standing in it at 11 pm, ringing numbers that go to voicemail, or to a call centre that "will pass it on". R&G is a Gordon-based team with close to two decades of hands-on Sydney plumbing behind it, and when you call, you talk to a plumber, not a queue. We tell you what to do in the next five minutes, whether it can safely wait until morning, and if it cannot, we dispatch a licensed plumber with a fully stocked vehicle so most emergencies are fixed in the first visit.
Every emergency is handled by licensed, insured plumbers and gas fitters, so a job that turns out to involve gas, drainage or hot water never needs a second trade. And because the call-out fee is $0 at any hour, ringing us to ask is always free, even if the answer is "leave it until morning and it will cost you less".
Nobody should pay emergency attention for a problem that can safely sleep. Because our call-out fee is $0 either way, we have no reason to talk you into urgency, so here is the straight version. When in doubt, call anyway: telling you it can wait costs you nothing.
| What is happening | Call now, 24/7 | Usually safe until morning |
|---|---|---|
| Water | Burst pipe you cannot isolate; water through a ceiling, wall or light fitting; flooding toward the house or switchboard | A drip you can catch in a bucket; a leaking tap that isolates at the fixture; a running toilet (turn off its stop tap) |
| Gas | Any gas smell, hissing, or suspected leak; headaches or nausea near a gas appliance | A pilot light that will not stay lit with no gas smell (turn the appliance off at its valve) |
| Drains | Sewage backing up inside; every drain gurgling or rising at once; an overflowing toilet that will not stop | One slow-draining sink or shower with everything else flowing normally |
| Hot water | A tank leaking heavily or bulging; water around electrical connections; no hot water in a household with infants, elderly or medical needs | No hot water in a household that can manage one evening; a minor weep at a valve (many relief valves drip by design) |
| Storm | Stormwater entering the garage, subfloor or house; a basement pit overflowing | A soggy lawn after the rain has stopped and nothing is threatened |
If your situation is in the left column, call 0420 146 747 now. If it is in the right column, isolate what you can, book a same-day visit for the morning, and it will usually be a smaller job at the same $0 call-out.
While a plumber is on the way, the first five minutes decide most of the damage bill. Find your water meter and main isolation tap today, before you ever need them: for most Sydney houses, the meter is at the front boundary, and units usually have an isolation valve at the hot water unit or in the bathroom/laundry.
Turn the main tap at the water meter clockwise until it stops. If water is near power points or light fittings, switch off power to that area at the switchboard if it is safe to reach. Open a low tap outside to drain pressure from the pipes, move what you can, and photograph the damage as you go for insurance.
Do not touch light fittings. Kill the lighting circuit at the switchboard, put a bucket under the drip, and if the ceiling is bulging, it is holding water: place towels wide around the area and stay from under it. Then isolate the water at the meter and call us.
Stop using every fixture, including taps; anything that goes down a drain right now comes up somewhere else. Keep people and pets away from affected areas, ventilate, and leave the cleanup of raw sewage to us, as it is a health hazard, and we sanitise as part of the job.
Check the obvious first: gas supply on, pilot light, or the hot water circuit breaker. If the tank itself is leaking, turn off the cold inlet valve on the pipe entering the unit and, for electric units, switch the hot water breaker off. Then call; we will tell you on the phone whether it sounds like a repair or a replacement.
Covered fully in the next section, because gas has its own rules: ventilate, no switches or flames, meter off if safe, and leave if the smell is strong.
A gas smell is the one plumbing emergency you never sit on. Our licensed emergency gas fitters respond 24/7 across Sydney with electronic leak detection, make the property safe, repair the fault and certify the work, with the same $0 call-out as every other emergency.

Rated and guaranteed
A 5.0 Google rating, licensed and insured for plumbing, drainage and gas, and a workmanship guarantee on every job.
Most of the 2 am jobs we attend were preventable. These five checks take a few minutes each and remove the most common causes of emergency call-outs we see across Sydney.
The braided hoses under sinks, vanities and toilets fail suddenly and flood homes. Rust spots, fraying or bulging means replace it now; they are cheap, and any of our visits can swap them while we are there.
Water meter at the front boundary, stop taps behind toilets and under sinks, gas at the meter, hot water isolation on the unit. Finding them today is the difference between a mop-up and an insurance claim.
Fats down the kitchen sink and wipes down the toilet, including the "flushable" ones, cause most of the sewer backups we clear.
Most stormwater flooding starts above head height or at a leaf-packed grate, not underground.
A serviced heater does not become a midnight carbon monoxide question.
Notice a relief valve dripping, a drain slowing, or a hose looking tired? That is a cheap daytime booking, not an emergency, and catching it there is the whole point. Call 0420 146 747, and we will check the lot in one visit.

It depends on your suburb and the time, so we do the honest thing: when you call 0420 146 747, we give you a realistic arrival time before you commit. The North Shore and northern suburbs are our fastest window, and genuine emergencies are prioritised ahead of all booked work, day and night.
Yes. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays, and it is answered by a plumber who can give you make-safe advice on the spot, not a call centre.
No. The call-out fee is $0 on every emergency job. We attend, assess and quote for free, and you only ever pay the fixed price you approved for the repair itself.
No. There is no after-hours surcharge and no weekend loading. The call-out is $0 at any hour, and the work is priced the same way at 2 am as at 2 pm: one fixed price, approved before we start.
With R&G: $0 to attend and assess, then a fixed price that depends entirely on the job, agreed before work starts. A burst flexi hose and a collapsed sewer are very different repairs, which is why we quote after seeing it rather than guessing on the phone. What you avoid with us is the pattern that inflates emergency bills elsewhere: an attendance fee, an after-hours loading and an uncapped hourly rate.
Anything actively damaging the property, creating a health or safety risk, or shutting down an essential service: burst pipes you cannot isolate, water through ceilings or near electricals, any gas smell, sewage backing up, an overflowing toilet that will not stop, heavy hot water leaks, and stormwater entering the home. If it is contained and nothing is threatened, it can usually wait for a cheaper morning booking, and we will tell you which it is on the phone.
Yes, and we do it every week. Because the call-out fee is $0 either way, we have no incentive to talk you into urgency. If it can safely wait until morning, we say so, book you in, and it usually costs less.
Turn the water off at the meter (clockwise until it stops), switch off power to any wet areas if safe, open an outside tap to drain pressure, move valuables and photograph the damage for insurance. Then call us on 0420 146 747; the first-aid steps above cover other emergencies too.
Turn the gas off at the meter if safe, ventilate, avoid all switches and flames, and leave if the smell is strong. Report street or meter smells to Jemena on 131 909, and call our licensed gas fitters on 0420 146 747 from a safe location. Never wait for a gas smell to go away.
It is when it is overflowing, when sewage is coming up inside, or when every drain in the house is affected at once, which points to the main line. One slow drain with everything else flowing is a same-day booking, not a midnight one.
